General Data Protection Regulation – Why Should I Care? What Should I Know?
The European Union will implement the GDPR on May 25, 2018. Be prepared with knowledge! This presentation covers the new European regulation reshaping the European framework on the protection of personal data, including key definitions in the GDPR, data protection principles, accountability, new information and consent requirements, new rights for individuals, mandatory provisions for vendors/data processors, and tougher sanctions. The GDPR not only applies to organizations located within the EU, but also to all organizations processing and holding the personal data of any individual in the EU (citizens, residents and visitors) as well as EU citizens living abroad, regardless of the organization’s location. This means, for example, that if a US-based company wants to conduct e-commerce in the EU (for which it needs to process some personal data such as name, shipping address, bank information, etc.), the GDPR applies to it. Speaker: Wendy Bozzolasco, Deputy Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer, Director Global Litigation, SunPower Corporation
