The move towards doing all things digitally in the work place has made many daily tasks much easier and more straightforward. However, a paralegal’s job of creating effective and comprehensive medical records requests is not one of them. A great deal of the clinical and billing data an attorney or expert witness needs to evaluate a case may never be printed or put in a paper file. If you don’t know how to request digital records and data, your firm won’t have all the information it needs. In many personal injury cases and medical payment disputes, electronic medical records and billing data contain the most crucial information. It is important for expert witnesses for both plaintiff and defense attorneys to have all of the information they need to develop an informed opinion on a case.
Certified Life Care Planner Kacy Turner will discuss how to request the medical records and information she needs to create or critique a life care plan. Dr. Ron Luke will discuss the medical and other records he needs to calculate a plaintiff’s loss of earning capacity. Dr. Luke will also discuss how to prepare discovery requests that cover electronic medical records and how to check whether a health care provider has produced all relevant records.
Both presenters will provide paralegals with tips for creating comprehensive requests, and ensuring the respondent provides all appropriate information in its response.
